As expected, Jay Leno kept the pomp and circumstance to a minimum on Tuesday night’s final primetime “The Jay Leno Show.” He did make a few references to his ill-fated 10 p.m. show:

Where were you the last five months? That’s what I want to know.

This is our last ‘Jay Leno Show’ Kev. The show was supposed to last two years. But my sentence was reduced to five months for good behavior.

We were on the air five months. It seems like just yesterday I was telling NBC, ‘This is not going to work.’

People say, ‘What has changed the most in five months?’ I’d have to say Heidi Montag.

Five months! Do you realize that guys on Viagra have had erections that lasted longer than that?

Also during the show, fellow Peacock personality Donald Trump appeared — and delivered the message “You’re fired” to Leno via satellite. Leno later signed off briefly: “Folks, looking forward to March first. Your local news starts now.”

Leno now disappears for a few weeks — and returns to “The Tonight Show” on March 1. Meanwhile, here’s a preview clip from the episode:
