Al Jazeera, France 24 to bow English-lingo channels
MUMBAI — India’s ministry of information and broadcasting has approved the entry of news channels Al-Jazeera and France 24 into the country. Both are expected to launch their English-language feeds in January.
Al-Jazeera already has a bureau in New Delhi; now, with a dedicated India feed, it hopes to reach 115 million households in the country. The channel applied for permission to launch in 2006.
France 24’s approval came on the back of the Indo-France audiovisual agreement signed Monday. — Naman Ramachandran
