Series, about a high school student who becomes suddenly popular when classmates discover he’s well-endowed, has been averaging 1.1 million viewers and 898,000 in the 12-34 demo. The season-one finale will air Aug. 23.
Pickup marks the cabler’s recent trend of adding scripted programming to its lineup. Net has announced greenlights for British import “Skins” and “Teen Wolf,” based on the Michael J. Fox film.
“Berger” launched to a healthy 2.6 million viewers on June 6, but that number was high because it debuted immediately following the MTV Music Awards, which is always a big draw for the net.
“We are 100% committed to scripted programming,” said programming topper Tony DiSanto. “Reality tends to burn bright and fast, (while) scripted series take time to grow.”
MTV has been making more headlines with the season two preem of “Jersey Shore,” which debuted to 5.3 million viewers and was the top cable telecast in the 12-34 crowd.
