Fox trumps CBS repeats; ABC has strong showing

One of the top-rated episodes of “House” this season carried Fox to a demo victory on Monday, a night when usual leader CBS aired all repeats. ABC had a strong showing as “The Bachelor” hit a season high and “Castle” earned series-best scores.

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, Fox won the night largely on the strength of “House” (5.2/13 in 18-49, 14.2 million viewers overall), which was up 13% over its most recent original episode from two weeks ago and stood as Monday’s No. 1 program in many categories. It was followed by a third-place demo finish for “24” (3.3/8 in 18-49, 10.7 million viewers overall).

ABC saw “The Bachelor” build for a third straight week (3.9/10 in 18-49, 11.4 million viewers overall), moving to the timeslot lead in its second hour and helping boost second-year mystery series “Castle” to series highs at 10 p.m. (3.1/8 in 18-49, 10.5 million viewers overall). “Castle” has steadily been picking up steam and won its hour over a repeat of CBS’ “CSI: Miami” (2.6/7 in 18-49, 10.0 million viewers overall).

CBS ran fourth in demos in the night’s opening hour with repeats of “How I Met Your Mother” (2.1/6 in 18-49, 6.1 million viewers overall) and “Accidentally on Purpose” (2.0/5 in 18-49, 5.6 million viewers overall) but then moved up to second with encores of “Two and a Half Men” (3.8/9 in 18-49, 12.1 million viewers overall) and “The Big Bang Theory” (4.0/10 in 18-49, 11.5 million viewers overall).

NBC started off OK with “Chuck” (2.5/6 in 18-49, 6.9 million viewers overall) but then tripped the rest of the way with “Heroes” (1.9/5 in 18-49, 4.3 million viewers overall) and “The Jay Leno Show” (1.2/3 in 18-49, 4.3 million viewers overall).

At CW, “Life Unexpected” (1.0/3 in 18-49, 2.1 million viewers overall) dropped from its solid premiere of last week, but was again in line with lead-in “One Tree Hill” (1.1/3 in 18-49, 2.2 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 4.3/11; ABC, 3.6/9; CBS, 2.8/7; NBC, 1.9/5; Univision, 1.5/4; CW, 1.0/3.

In total viewers: Fox, 12.4 million; ABC, 11.1 million; CBS, 9.1 million; NBC, 5.2 million; Univision, 3.8 million; CW, 2.2 million.
