HBO orders second season of ‘Treme’

David Simon's New Orleans series premiered Sunday

Just two days after the series premiere, HBO has given a second-season order for “Treme.”

Opening episode drew 1.1 million viewers Sunday and cabler felt it didn’t need to wait any longer to contemplate the show’s future. Reviews for the skein, about how the citizens of New Orleans face life after Hurricane Katrina, have been outstanding.

David Simon and Eric Overmyer created the show and exec produce with Nina K. Noble and Carolyn Strauss. The late David Mills was a co-exec producer.

“Treme” stars Wendell Pierce, Steve Zahn, Clarke Peters, Khandi Alexander, Melissa Leo, Kim Dickens, Rob Brown, Lucia Micarelli and John Goodman.
