‘Good Guys,’ ‘Persons’ off to slow start

ABC tops ratings on sluggish Monday

ABC captured the first Monday of June in key demos behind “The Bachelorette” and “True Beauty,” but it was slow going for premiering shows “The Good Guys” on Fox and “Persons Unknown” on NBC. CBS, the only net with all repeats, still led in total viewers.

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, ABC’s “The Bachelorette” led its 8-10 p.m. block in adults 18-49 (2.6 rating/8 share) while drawing 7.9 million viewers overall, growing slightly in both categories week to week. It was followed by “True Beauty” (1.9/5 in 18-49, 8.0 million viewers overall), which was down a bit week to week but challenged for the demo lead.

NBC launched its Monday lineup to nothing-special numbers, opening with the two-hour season premiere of “Last Comic Standing” (2.0/6 in 18-49, 5.0 million viewers overall), which placed third from 8 to 10 but did give the net its best non-sports result in the time period in three months. And at 10, the drama “Persons Unknown” settled for a soft 1.3/4 in 18-49 and 4.3 million viewers overall.

Similarly, Fox did OK — but was underwhelming — starting the night with firstrun drama “Lie to Me” (1.8/6 in 18-49, 6.0 million viewers overall) before dropping 2 share points at 9 p.m. with “The Good Guys” (1.4/4 in 18-49, 4.6 million viewers overall), which placed a distant fourth among the broadcast nets. Fox can’t be pleased with the early numbers for “Good Guys,” which is scheduled to air on Fridays this fall.

CBS beat out all-original lineups on Fox and NBC with encores of its regular lineup, starting with “How I Met Your Mother” (1.6/6 in 18-49, 5.4 million viewers overall) and “Rules of Engagement” (1.6/5 in 18-49, 5.5 million viewers overall). They were followed by strong middle-hour comedies “Two and a Half Men” (2.6/8 in 18-49, 9.7 million viewers overall) and “The Big Bang Theory” (2.7/7 in 18-49, 9.1 million viewers overall) and drama “CSI: Miami” (1.9/5 in 18-49, 8.0 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: ABC, 2.3/7; CBS, 2.0/6; NBC, 1.8/5; Fox, 1.6/5; Univision, 1.4/4; CW, 0.3/1.

In total viewers: CBS, 7.6 million; ABC, 6.9 million; Fox, 5.3 million; NBC, 4.8 million; Univision, 3.6 million; CW, 0.7 million.
