Random House imprints Ballantine and Bantam Dell have merged into a single publishing group, with Ballantine publisher Libby McGuire heading up the new unit as senior VP, Publisher. Former Bantam Dell pub Nina Taublib is out and will leave the company. McGuire will report to Random House Publishing Group head Gina Centrello.
Jennifer Hershey will be senior veep/editor-in-chief of the new imprint,
Move consolidates imprints and has the added effect of officially moving two of Random’s largest Sci-Fi/Fantasy imprints under the same umbrella. Bantam Dell’s Spectra group publishes George R. R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series (currently in pre-production at HBO as “Game of Thrones”), among others. Ballantine’s Del Rey Books publishes licensed “Star Wars” novels under its Del Rey/Lucas Books sub-imprint, along with a host of other SF-related titles including tie-ins set in Microsoft’s “Halo” vidgame universe and various novelizations based on Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies. Though the imprints will keep their individual logos, Scott Shannon will continue to edit both.
