Dixie Carter was 70

Best known for her lengthy stint as Julia Sugarbaker on CBS' late 1980s sitcom "Designing Women," Dixie Carter has died. She was 70.

Carter more recently earned an Emmy nom for a guest stint on "Desperate Housewives." She also starred int the late 1990s CBS drama "Family Law."

Viewers still remember her best for "Designing Women" — although Gen Xers like myself may remember seeing her first as Mr. Drummond's love interest, and then wife, on "Diff'rent Strokes."

Carter is survived by her husband, Hal Holbrook, and two daughters from a previous message.

Above, a scene from "Designing Women" featuring Carter; and below, a screengrab from "Diff'rent Strokes."
