It will create content for its global channels
Discovery Networks Intl. has launched a global creative unit and tapped Luis Silberwasser to head it as executive VP and chief content officer.Silberwasser, of Colombian descent, was formerly senior VP of content for Discovery Networks Latin America/U.S. Hispanic and international head of content for DNI. Based in Miami, his mandate is to produce and develop content for Discovery’s portfolio of networks in more than 180 countries. “We’ll be harnessing our resources and creativity around the world to produce content that could work in one region or across various,” he said. A prototype for the latter is one-hour docu “Rescued: The Chilean Mine Story,” which the Discovery Channel aired worldwide just two weeks after the 33 miners were dramatically rescued from a collapsed mine in Chile. Their rescue in mid-October, aired live, gripped the whole world and was a ratings bonanza for news webs. DNI encompasses operations in the Asia-Pacific, Latin America/U.S. Hispanic, the U.K., Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
