Veteran 'Sunday Night Football' host reups with network
Chris Berman will be anchoring ESPN’s Sunday pro football coverage for many gridiron seasons to come. The veteran sportscaster who has been at the cabler for more than 30 years reupped his contract for “multiple years,” according to a network source who would not disclose exact terms or length. Berman’s current deal was due to expire May 10. Berman, who also handles some baseball and golf responsibilities at the network, has hosted “Sunday NFL Countdown” (formerly “NFL GameDay”) for 25 years. “Chris has contributed so much to our company’s success in reaching sports fans for more than three decades, and we are thrilled that one of the most important figures in our history will remain a vital part of ESPN’s future,” said ESPN president George Bodenheimer. Though not seen as much during non-football season, Berman will be on the air this week as ESPN covers the NFL draft. The 75th edition of the event, broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall in Gotham, takes place in primetime for the first time.
