The top-rated news cabler averaged 7.1 million viewers from 8:15 to 9 p.m., when Shepard Smith anchored live coverage of the event. That reps Fox News’ highest-rated telecast of the year and best since it 9.5 million viewers from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Nov. 4, 2008.
According to Fox News, its second-highest telecast of the year came on Jan. 19, when coverage of the special Massachusetts election during “Hannity” delivered 6.8 million viewers.
Fox News also beat two broadcast networks — NBC and Fox — in the 8 p.m. hour.
