'Survivor' tops night of all-time lows

On a Thursday night of primetime that offered more than a few all-time lows for some series, CBS emerged victorious in the 18-49 demo and with viewers overall.

“Survivor” (3.6 rating/11 share, 11.8 million viewers overall) was the night’s most-watched program in 18-49, easily defeating “Bones” (2.5/7, 8.8 million) in the 8 p.m. hour. NBC’s “Community” (1.7/5, 3.9 million) and special 8:30 p.m. airing of “30 Rock” (1.9/6, 4.2 million) took third place in the timeslot over ABC’s “FlashForward” (1.6/5, 5.6 million), which was up from last week but barely held off the CW’s “The Vampire Diaries” (1.5/5, 3.3 million) in the demo. “Vampire” was tops in the hour among females 12-34.

At 9 p.m., NBC’s “The Office” (3.3/9, 6.4 million) was tops in 18-49, though CBS’ “CSI” (2.8/8, 13.3 million), despite matching its lowest ratings ever, more than doubled the Steve Carell starrer in overall viewers. ABC pushed its rerun of “Grey’s Anatomy” to 10 p.m. to give more exposure to a new “Private Practice” (2.3/6, 7.4 million). It was the drama’s worst numbers of the season and far below the last “Grey’s” original, but it still outperformed “Fringe” (2.1/6, 5.9

million) and NBC’s regularly scheduled “30 Rock” (1.9/6, 4.2 million at 9:30 p.m.). The CW’s “Supernatural” (1.3/3, 2.7 million) improved over its previous week.

CBS’ “The Mentalist” (3.0/8, 14.8 million) led all shows in overall viewers Thursday, dominating over NBC’s “The Marriage Ref” (1.9/5, 4.3

million) and the aforementioned repeat of “Grey’s” (1.3/4, 4.4 million). “Ref,” “Community” and the first “30 Rock” all hit all-time ratings lows.

Preliminary 18-49 averages: CBS 3.1/9, Fox 2.3/7, NBC 2.2/6, ABC 1.7/5, Univision 1.5/4, CW 1.4/4.

In total viewers: CBS 13.3 million, Fox 7.4 million, ABC 5.8 million, NBC 4.7 million, Univision 3.4 million, CW 3.0 million.
