CBS resurrects ‘Pyramid’

Gameshow may replace 'As the World Turns'

CBS is hoping the third time’s the charm for “Pyramid.”

Having developed and scrapped a disappointing version last year, the Eye has picked up a new “Pyramid” pilot from Sony Pictures TV and Michael Davies’ Embassy Row, the network confirmed over the weekend.

News comes as the Eye finds itself filling a canceled soap opera timeslot for the second year in a row.

Last year, the end of “Guiding Light” led CBS to throw a game show bake-off, with “Let’s Make a Deal” eventually winning the slot over “Pyramid” and other contenders.

Davies shot two failed “Pyramid” pilots last year, hosted by Dean Cain and Tim Vincent.

This time around, CBS is looking to replace the canceled “As the World Turns.” Given the decent ratings for “Let’s Make a Deal,” the net plans to go back to the gameshow well.

According to the website Buzzer Blog, the “Pyramid” redux will be shot in Los Angeles. Other games said to be in contention include yet another revival of “Password.”

“Password” ran as a primetime series on the Eye as the Regis Philbin-hosted “Million Dollar Password,” as recently as last year.

“Pyramid” first launched on CBS’ daytime sked in 1973, with Dick Clark as host. Versions then aired on ABC and in syndication before eventually returning to CBS in the 1980s. The most recent version ran in syndication from 2002-04.
