CBS has renewed “The Young and the Restless” for three more seasons, keeping the daytime soap on the air through 2013-14.
“Young” has been the best of a vanishing breed, reigning first in daytime dramas among total viewers (averaging 5.15 million this season) as well as women 18-49 and 25-54. By these standards, “Young” has ranked No. 1 for more than two decades.
Maria Bell serves as head writer and exec producer of “Young,” which premiered in 1973 and is produced by Bell Dramatic Serial Co., in association with Sony Pictures TV.
The “Young” announcement comes on the heels of NBC’s two-season renewal of “Days of Our Lives” earlier this month.
CBS is also said to be close to a two-year renewal of its half-hour sudser “The Bold and the Beautiful.”
