CBS reality, Fox toons top Sunday

'Big Brother' wins over all-repeat competition

Fox’s animated comedy reruns gave the network a victory among primetime viewers 18-49 Sunday, though CBS had more than twice as many viewers overall. Each of the four major networks won an hour of primetime on the night in 18-49.

ABC was tops at 7 p.m. with “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (1.4 rating/5 share, 5.3 million viewers overall), which bested new episodes of the Peacock’s “Dateline” (1.0/4, 4.9 million) and CBS’ “60 Minutes” (0.9/3, 7.0 million). A new episode of canceled live-action sitcom “Sons of Tucson” (0.7/2, 1.6 million) ran dry, followed by a rerun of “American Dad” (0.9/3, 2.0 million).

Against all-repeat competition at 8 p.m., a new episode of CBS’ “Big Brother” (2.3/7, 7.0 million) delivered the night’s most-watched program, topping Fox’s “The Simpsons” (1.7/6, 3.7 million) and “The Cleveland Show” (1.5/5, 3.4 million). ABC was third in the hour with “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” (1.3/4, 4.8 million), followed by NBC’s “Law and Order: Criminal Intent” (0.9/3, 4.9 million).

The 9 p.m. hour was Fox’s turn to shine, with an hourlong version of “Family Guy” (1.7/5, 3.9 million) holding off the first hour of NBC’s repeat “America’s Got Talent” (1.4/4, 5.0 million from 9-11 p.m., 1.3/4, 4.8 million from 9-10 p.m.). ABC’s “Scoundrels” (0.8/2, 3.0 million) fell 20% in the demo from its last original episode two weeks prior and could not catch up to CBS’ rerun of “The Mentalist” (1.0/3, 5.9 million).

The second hour of “America’s Got Talent” (1.5/4, 5.1 million) helped NBC surge ahead in the demo at 10 p.m., ahead of CBS’ “Cold Case” (1.1/3, 5.7 million) and ABC summer drama “The Gates” (1.3/3, 3.2 million), which fell 9% from two weeks ago. “Talent” gave NBC its highest 9-11 p.m. Sunday numbers since the Stanley Cup on June 6.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox 1.4/4, CBS 1.3/4, NBC 1.2/4, ABC 1.1/3, Univision 0.7/2.

In total viewers: CBS 6.4 million, NBC 4.9 million, ABC 4.1 million, Fox 3.1 million, Univision 1.8 million.
