On a conference call today with investors, Bob Iger gave his first public comments on the recent changes at ABC Entertainment — the exit of Steve McPherson, who was replaced with ABC Family prexy Paul Lee:

ABC had a lot of success with ‘Greys,’ ‘Lost,’ ‘Desperate Housewives,’ but we’ve seen them age over time. The focus at ABC was adding to the schedule and building another foundation while ‘Greys’ and ‘Desperate Housewives’ are still on the air.

The ABC schedule was in relative decent shape, but that’s not to say it doesn’t need some strengthening. The schedule they’ve put together in the fall is a good solid schedule.

In general, ABC, in terms of primetime programming, was heading in the right direction. We put an executive in who has a proven track record in primetime television with ABC Family and has some really strong shows on his schedule. He brings to ABC a sensibilty in commercial instincts and I feel great that we were able to put Paul in that position.
