BET Awards draws 7.4 mil viewers

Show ranks in the top 5 cable telecasts for year

Sunday’s 10th annual BET Awards telecast packed a punch for the cabler, drawing an average of 7.4 million viewers from 8-11:30 pm.

The kudocast faced a tough comparison to last year when nearly 11 million viewers tuned in to the show that aired three days after the shocking death of Michael Jackson. This year’s show featured an emotional tribute to Jackson from singer Chris Brown, as well as perfs by Kanye West, John Legend, Alicia Keys and a lifetime achievement kudo to Prince.

According to Nielsen, 4.5 million households tuned in to the awards. It ranks in the top 5 cable telecasts for the year to date.
