Auds continue love affair with ‘Bachelorette’

CBS comes in second with all-repeat lineup

Heating up as it moves closer to its finale, ABC’s “The Bachelorette” easily emerged as Monday’s top-rated series, matching its summer high and again dominating its two-hour timeslot in key demos. CBS ran second with its all-repeat lineup.

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, “The Bachelorette” averaged a 3.1 rating/9 share in adults 18-49 and 9.5 million viewers overall from 8 to 10 p.m. as the show narrowed its field down to three bachelors. Also for ABC, which has now won six consecutive Mondays in adults 18-49, “True Beauty” averaged a 1.7/5 in 18-49 and 5.0 million viewers overall, in line with the previous week.

CBS opened with a third-place finish among the major nets in the night’s opening hour with encores of “How I Met Your Mother” (1.5/5 in 18-49, 4.6 million viewers overall) and “Rules of Engagement” (1.7/5 in 18-49, 5.1 million viewers overall) before moving up to second place in the middle hour with “Two and a Half Men” (2.3/7 in 18-49, 7.7 million viewers overall) and “The Big Bang Theory” (2.3/6 in 18-49, 7.7 million viewers overall). “CSI: Miami” closed out the evening with a 1.6/5 in 18-49 and 6.6 million viewers overall.

NBC saw immediate improvement by replacing ratings-challenged “Persons Unknown” with a repeat of “America’s Got Talent” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 5.2 million viewers overall). That made for a more compatible lead-in for 9 p.m. reality show “Last Comic Standing” (1.7/5 in 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall), which came in a bit below the previous week’s two-hour average but performed better than last week in its regular 9 o’clock slot. And at 10, the timeslot debut of “Dateline” settled for a 1.3/4 in the demo and 5 million viewers overall.

At Fox, “Lie to Me” (1.7/6 in 18-49, 5.6 million viewers overall) was a bit below its recent deliveries, and lead-out “The Good Guys” (1.1/3 in 18-49, 3.5 million viewers overall), continues to struggle and will likely place seventh or lower for its timeslot when all nationals.

Among the cable shows on Monday were TNT’s return of hit crime drama “The Closer” along with the net’s new “Rizzoli and Isles,” as well as ESPN’s annual “Home Run Derby” contest.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: ABC, 2.6/8; CBS, 1.8/5; Univision, 1.5/4; NBC, 1.4/4; Fox, 1.4/4; CW, 0.3/1.

In total viewers: ABC, 8.0 million; CBS, 6.4 million; NBC, 5.0 million; Fox, 4.5 million; Univision, 3.8 million; CW, 0.7 million.
