Exec joins as vice president of programming

LONDON — AETN U.K. has tapped the creative director of U.K. shingle IWC Media for the newly created position of vice president of programming.

Adam MacDonald, who starts at AETN U.K. in January, will report to managing director Tom Davidson.

Alongside Davidson, MacDonald, who first made an impact in U.K. TV circles as a BBC planner and scheduler, will be responsible for the programming and channel strategies for AETN U.K.’s portfolio.

This involves overseeing commissioning, acquisitions and scheduling for the firm’s suite of factual channels.

These include History, History HD, Bio, Bio HD, Crime & Investigation Network, Crime & Investigation Network HD, and Military History in the U.K, Ireland, Africa, the Middle East, Greece, Benelux, Scandinavia and Central Europe.

Prior to joining AETN U.K., owned jointly by U.S. outfit A&E and U.K. paybox BSkyB, MacDonald spent two years at ITV as controller of daytime and digital factual.

Previously, he was head of daytime at Channel 4, commissioning break-out hits “Come Dine With Me” and “Deal or No Deal.”

MacDonald began his career at the BBC, where, from 1988 to 2002, he worked in scheduling, ultimately as head of planning and scheduling for flagship web BBC1.
