With “House” edging “Dancing With the Stars” among adults 18-49 between 8 and 9 p.m., Fox won Monday primetime in the demo, but ABC was tops among overall viewers by nearly 5 million viewers.

In its second airing, ABC comedy “Romantically Challenged” dropped a little more than 10% of its aud compared with its premiere, according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen.

“Dancing With the Stars” (4.3 rating/12 share in 18-49, 20.2 million viewers overall) had nearly twice as many viewers than any other broadcast primetime program Monday, but “House” (4.1/12, 10.6 million) still nipped it in the demo during the first hour. In its final 30 minutes, “Stars” powered ahead with a 5.0/13, a mark unchallenged by CBS’ rerun of “Two and a Half Men” (3.0/8, 9.7 million) and the first halfhour of Fox’s “24″ (2.9/8, 9.2 million from 9-9:30 p.m.).

A repeat of CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” (3.5/9, 10.6 million) topped “Romantically Challenged” (2.7/7, 10.0 million), which virtually tied the second halfhour of “24″ (2.7/7, 9.1 million). “Challenged” is outperforming ABC’s year-ago numbers in the timeslot by 23% in the demo (though its numbers could drop slightly in the final Nielsens this afternoon, because of a “DWTS” runover).

Finishing out of the money at 9 p.m. were NBC’s “Trauma” (1.6/4, 5.3 million – its best marks since Nov. 30) and the CW’s “Gossip Girl” (1.1/3, 2.0 million).

“Chuck” (2.1/6, 6.0 million) gave NBC the bronze medal in the 8 p.m.

hour with its highest numbers since March 8. CBS was fourth from 8-8:30 p.m. with a repeat of “How I Met Your Mother” (1.6/5, 4.8

million) but recovered to pass “Chuck” with a fresh “Rules of Engagement” (2.4/7, 6.7 million). CW had “One Tree Hill” (1.0/3, 2.1 million).

Finally, in a battle of reruns at 10 p.m., ABC’s “Castle” (2.0/6, 8.1

million) has a photo finish with CBS’ “CSI: Miami” (2.0/6, 7.9 million). NBC’s “Law & Order” (1.5/4, 4.8 million) trailed despite its best ratings this season for a repeat.

Preliminary 18-49 averages: Fox 3.5/9, ABC 3.3/9, CBS 2.4/7, NBC 1.7/5, Univision 1.5/4, CW 1.1/3.
