ABC reality rules Monday

'Bachelorette,' 'True Beauty' top lackluster night

Another solid performance by “The Bachelorette” and a decent outing by “True Beauty” helped ABC capture a lackluster Monday demo ratings race. Fox saw “Lie to Me” edge up, but lead-out “The Good Guys” continues to struggle.

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, “The Bachelorette” (2.6/8 in 18-49, 8.3 million viewers overall) was flat or up a bit in various categories in its fourth week, winning its two-hour time period in adults 18-49. And “True Beauty” (1.9/6 in 18-49, 5.4 million viewers overall) held on to enough of its lead-in to top the broadcasters among young adults in the 10 o’clock hour.

CBS, second on the night in 18-49 and edging ABC out for the lead in total viewers, again generated decent numbers with repeats of its regular lineup, starting with “How I Met Your Mother” (1.7/6 in 18-49, 5.5 million viewers overall) and “Rules of Engagement” (1.8/6 in 18-49, 6.1 million viewers overall) and rising in the middle hour with “Two and a Half Men” (2.4/7 in 18-49, 9.2 million viewers overall) and “The Big Bang Theory” (2.6/7 in 18-49, 8.8 million viewers overall). And at 10, “CSI: Miami” did a 1.6/5 in the demo and drew 7.6 million viewers overall.

At Fox, auds may be discovering that “Lie to Me” is in originals this summer, as the drama rose about 10% week to week to place second in the 8 o’clock hour (2.0/7 in 18-49, 6.5 million viewers overall). It continues to be slow going, though, for the net’s 9 o’clock action comedy “The Good Guys” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 4.4 million viewers overall), which ranked a distant fourth among the English-language broadcasters.

NBC opened with a repeat of “Last Comic Standing” (1.2/4 in 18-49, 3.4 million viewers overall), followed by third-place numbers for the show’s firstrun episode (2.1/6 in 18-49, 4.8 million viewers overall). The net then dropped off rather sharply at 10 p.m. with original scripted series “Persons Unknown” (1.2/4 in 18-49, 3.4 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: ABC, 2.3/7; CBS, 1.9/6; Fox, 1.6/5; Univision, 1.6/5; NBC, 1.5/5; CW, 0.3/1.

In total viewers: CBS, 7.5 million; ABC, 7.4 million; Fox, 5.4 million; Univision, 4.0 million; NBC, 3.9 million.
