Twentieth TV approves renewal in top five markets
Twentieth Television has given a firm go to a second season of gamer “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” in first-run syndication.
Show has been renewed for fall 2010 in the top five markets, including Tribune’s WPIX New York, Fox TV Stations’ KTTV/KCOP Los Angeles and Fox’s WFLD/WPWR Chicago.
News reps a nice boost for producers Mark Burnett and Zoo Prods., which previously produced a primetime version of the gamer for Fox. The producers recently scrapped their follow-up network project, “Our Little Geniuses,” due to on-set irregularities. (Burnett has said he still hopes to mount a new version of the show.)
Twentieth TV exec VP Paul Franklin credited host Jeff Foxworthy for the “seamless transition” of “5th Grader” from Fox to syndication.
