USA Network, looking to expand its original programming lineup, will be shooting a pair of hourlong drama pilots this summer.
“A Legal Mind,” from Doug Liman’s Dutch Ov en Prods., centers on a top Gotham lawyer who recruits a college dropout who has what it takes to be an attorney, but not the law degree. Skein from Universal Cable Prods. was created by Aaron Korsh, who wrote the pilot. Liman, Korsh, David Bartis and Gene Klein exec produce.
From Sony Pictures Television comes “Necessary Roughness,” about a female therapist who improves the fortunes of a pro football team and is soon sought after by other teams and high-profile professionals living in the spotlight.
Elizabeth Kruger and Craig Shapiro co-wrote the pilot and, along with Donna Dannenfesler, Joe Sabatino and Kevin Dowling, are exec producers. Dowling is also helming the pilot.
Both shows, which will initially air as 90-minute movies before possibly upgrading to series status, are cast contingent.
USA’s next new drama to launch is “Covert Affairs,” which preems 10 p.m. July 13.
