Tribune sets president of programming

Company elevates Compton

Sean Compton has been upped to prexy of programming for Tribune Broadcasting.

He oversees all programming matters for Tribune’s 23 TV stations plus WGN America cabler and WGN Radio station in Chicago. Compton has been with Tribune since 2008 as senior veep of programming and entertainment.

Compton spearheaded Tribune’s plan to invigorate WGN America with a host of off-net laffer acquisitions that will begin rolling out this fall ( Daily Variety , Oct. 7).

His promotion comes a few days after Jerry Kersting was upped to prexy of Tribune Broadcasting following the exit of Ed Wilson ( Daily Variety , May 3).

Before Tribune, Compton spent more than 15 years as a programming exec for radio giants Clear Channel and Jacor.
