Comics Neal Brennan and Dov Davidoff are dining out with Showtime. The pair have landed a presentation order from the feevee cabler for a half-hour comedy to be produced by Chernin Entertainment and Fox 21.
Brennan and Davidoff will play comedians who begin each day at a coffee shop discussing dating, relationships and other personal matters. As they tell each other stories, the show will veer into sketches, man-on-the-street interviews and other elements to enhance the themes the two discuss.
Brennan was the creator, exec producer and director of Comedy Central’s “Chappelle’s Show,” with Dave Chappelle, which also employed the hybrid narrative format as envisioned for the untitled Showtime project. Brennan and Davidoff will co-write the pilot and exec produce.
“Neal and Dov have an incredibly fresh voice about relationships,” said Showtime Networks entertainment prexy Robert Greenblatt. The hope is that the “hybrid elements will elevate it from a traditional comedy into something more cutting-edge,” he said.
