Burnett brings 'Smarter' star to guest on panel
Hoping to breathe some life into “Shark Tank,” exec producer Mark Burnett is borrowing from another one of his franchises.Jeff Foxworthy, host of Burnett’s “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?,” has signed on to appear in three episodes of “Shark Tank.” Foxworthy’s involvement comes as ABC gives the show another chance, ordering eight more episodes. “Shark Tank” centers on entrepreneurs as they look for funding to turn their business ideas into reality. But the contestants must first convince a group of five multimillionaires. Foxworthy will join the panel. The comedian turned his “You Might Be a Redneck” catchphrase into a major industry, spawning merchandise such as cards, calendars, beef jerky, barbecue sauce and slot machines. Production resumes on “Shark Tank” this fall for a 2011 air date. Burnett, Clay Newbill and Phil Gurin exec produce. Show, from Sony Pictures TV, is based on the Japanese format “Dragons’ Den,” from Nippon TV Network. ABC ran ten episodes of “Shark Tank” late last summer, into fall, with four more in early winter.
