'Rafters' nabs award for most popular TV drama

Ray Meagher, who plays Alf in sudser “Home and Away,” won Aussie TV’s highest kudo, the Gold Logie, on Sunday.

The 52nd kudocast gave the aud-voted award to the veteran thesp, his first nom after more than two decades on the show, which bowed on the Seven Network in 1988.

The runner up Silver Logies — for most popular actor and actress — went to Hugh Sheridan and Rebecca Gibney who star in Seven’s family skein “Packed to the Rafters.” The skein also won most popular drama.

Ten Network, Oz’s third-ranked web, had a better night than in past years with “MasterChef Australia,” the Blighty import, winning most popular reality program, and its star, food critic Matt Preston, taking the Graham Kennedy kudo for outstanding new talent.

Ten’s generational quizzer “Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation” won the outstanding and most popular light entertainment program awards and host Shaun Micallef won a Silver Logie for most popular presenter.

Seven won the night with eight wins, Ten took home seven and Nine just a single kudo for sports program with “The Footy Show.”

Multicultural pubcaster SBS won the peer-voted best drama for interracial cop drama “East West 101.”
