Oprah's network acquires 'Family' documentary
The Oprah Winfrey Network has done some shopping at Sundance.Net, whose launch has been pushed back until January 2011, has acquired “Family Affair” at the film fest as the first entry in its documentary film club. Pic, written and produced by Chico David Colvard, tells the story of a family that began to unravel when a 10-year-old boy shoots his sister in the leg. The docu film club — similar to Winfrey’s acclaimed book club in that she’ll spread the word on pics she believes are worthy of attention — will air monthly on the talkshow queen’s Discovery-owned net. “I believe that my story will resonate with both men and women who are struggling with their past, and give them a new insight to move forward with their future,” said Colvard. Besides Colvard, Liz Garbus is also producer. Dan Cogan and Abigail Disney are exec producers.
