MTV hires Randy Sosin as senior VP

Exec will serve in talent development, programming

MTV’s got another ratings Situation on its hands.

Snooki, The Situation, Pauly D and company delivered MTV’s highest-rated series performance in channel history on Thursday night. The season three bow of MTV’s monster reality hit “Jersey Shore” on Thursday night scored 8.5 million viewers, making it the highest-rated series telecast in MTV history.

According to MTV, “Jersey Shore’s” season three bow also averaged 6.5 million 12-34 viewers — more than any broadcast or cable television show this broadcast season. (That’s sure to change once “American Idol” returns.)

“Jersey Shore’s” premiere is also up 63% versus the show’s season two premiere (8.3 vs. 5.1).
