Fox Look to have international focus
Former Fox Reality Channel prexy David Lyle has been named the head of a new international-fueled division of Fox Networks Group.
Fox Look will focus on licensing and producing unscripted fare from the Fox Broadcasting and Fox Cable libraries to international auds.
Announcement of the division comes as Fox Reality morphs into NatGeo Wild.
The establishment of Fox Look, which apparently isn’t an elaborate April Fool’s Day hoax perpetrated on Lyle, was announced by Fox Networks Group chairman/CEO Tony Vinciquerra.
“There is strong demand for this type of content internationally and Fox Look was created to maximize our footprint,” Vinciquerra said. “David Lyle is an expert in the international format business.”
Lyle, who will serve as president of Fox Look, reports to Vinciquerra, and will also work with 20th Century Fox International TV topper Marion Edwards.
Fox Look will operate as a reality production house, licensing formats, partnering with international production companies and even establishing new production entities to produce programming in various territories.
The unit will now also handle Fox library formats such as “Temptation Island,” “Beauty and the Geek,” “Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance” and “Celebrity Spelling Bee.”
“It’s great to have a distribution arm dedicated solely to our shows,” said Fox alternative programming prexy Mike Darnell.
Separately, Fox Television Studios, which doesn’t fall under the Fox Networks Group banner, continues to also pursue international co-productions — but has more recently focused on scripted fare.
Beyond Fox Reality Channel, Lyle’s resume includes serving as entertainment prexy at FremantleMedia North Amierca, as well as worldwide head of acquisition and development at Pearson Television, and as head of development at Australia’s Nine.
Lyle will continue to be based in Los Angeles.
