Keoghan only reality host winner

Always busy Seacrest wrangles judges, contestants

Phil Keoghan
“The Amazing Race”
Emmy pedigree: One previous nom
Best moment: Shooting the fifth episode’s re-enactment of a World War I battle in France, Keoghan was moving from a bunker to a field location when he nearly stepped on an old grenade.
Why he might win: The show tests Keoghan as well as its competitors by taking them out of their comfort zone.
Maybe not: Voters might feel giving Keoghan the honor after the show’s incredible Emmy run would be too much.

Ryan Seacrest
“American Idol”
Emmy pedigree: Two previous noms
Best moment: Seacrest blurting to Elvis week guest and former “Idol” contestant Adam Lambert, “My tongue is not nearly as talented as yours.”
Why he might win: He not only manages Simon Cowell and the judges well, but is often asked to calm the nerves of the anxiety-ridden contestants.
Maybe not: His banter with the judges can often feel like we’re supposed to understand a long-running inside joke.

Tom Bergeron
“Dancing With the Stars”
Emmy pedigree: Two previous noms
Best moment: Witty ripostes were everywhere: “I hope you enjoyed our salt-in-the-wound slow-motion replay,” or after a dance with props, “‘It’s not the bed I rehearsed on’ is my favorite excuse ever!”
Why he might win: As he jokes about dancing, judging and even audience reaction, Bergeron deftly keeps the hectic show on time and its explosive personalities defused.
Maybe not: Bergeron’s relaxed style actually makes it look too easy.

Heidi Klum
“Project Runway”
Emmy pedigree: Two previous noms
Best moment: Klum forcefully straddled her roles as host and judge in part one of the season-seven finale, arguing strongly for Mila while reminding the other judges to assess the designs they actually saw, rather than what they’d hoped to see.
Why she might win: “Runway” devotees either adore or despise her, meaning she’s making a strong impression.
Maybe not: How hard could a fashion gig be compared with the strain of hosting a live show?

Jeff Probst
“Survivor”
Emmy pedigree: Two previous wins
Best moment: Probst got emotional watching 10 memorable heroes and 10 villains from previous seasons descend from helicopters — a living summation of the program’s impact on TV culture.
Why he might win: The two-time reigning champ has established he’s clearly an Emmy favorite.
Maybe not: Might be time for the pendulum to swing to someone else.
