“Weeds” creator/exec producer Jenji Kohan has cut a new two-year overall deal with Lionsgate TV, home of the long-running Showtime comedy.
Kohan is set to stay at the helm of “Weeds,” which bows its sixth season this summer, and she’s at work on another pilot for Showtime along with “Weeds” scribe Stephen Falk. Untitled project is described as a musical comedy.
Demonstrating her offbeat sense of humor, Kohan said of her new deal: “Having gotten to second base with Lionsgate in my former ‘under the shirt but over the bra’ deal, it’s a thrill to now be in bed with them and going all the way.”
Kohan is spearheading another drama pilot for Lionsgate, “Tough Trade,” for the fledgling pay cabler Epix, in which Lionsgate is a co-owner. Series revolves around a sprawling dysfunctional family in the country music biz. A pickup decision on “Tough Trade” is expected soon.
