German dramas hit Croisette

'Hindenberg,' 'Laconia' being shopped at Mipcom

German producers TeamWorx and Eos unveiled trailers of “Hindenburg” and “Laconia,” two high-bracket English-lingo drama series, at Mipcom on Monday and announced three more historical dramas.

Set during WWII, “The Generation” is a $20.5 million three-part series described as a “German ‘Band of Brothers’ by TeamWorx managing director Nico Hofmann. Philipp Kadelbach, who directed “Hindenburg,” will helm from a script by Stephan Kolditz. Commissioned by German broadcaster ZDF, series will shoot in spring in Germany and Russia.

“Rommel,” about the German WWII marshal known as the Desert Fox, will start lensing in Tunisia next spring from a script by Niki Stein.

“Love and Death in Java” is a two-part drama about a family of German Jews who flee to Indonesia during WWII. The $7.4 million mini, commissioned by pubcaster ARD, will be directed by Heidi Kranz..

Meanwhile, Beta Film is launching sales on Uwe Janson’s “Laconia,” an $18 million two-part drama, and “Hindenburg — The Last Flight,” a $14-million two-parter.
