Epix taps docu chief

Film fest vet Jill Burkhart to run development efforts

Film fest vet Jill Burkhart has been tapped to head docu development for Epix.

The pay cabler aims to increase the volume of original and acquired docus it carries. Epix earned an Emmy nom for one of its first efforts, “Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story.”

Burkhart, who will serve as director of doc development, comes to Epix after working as exec director of the Nantucket Film Festival, which she co-founded in 1996. She has also worked with the non-profit org Screenwriters Colony and with Gotham’s Madstone Films.

“Jill’s experience working with independent film producers, studios, and festivals uniquely qualifies her for this new role,” said Laverne McKinnon, Epix’s exec veep of original programming and development.

Epix, which marks the first anniversary of its launch next month, is a joint venture of Viacom, Lionsgate and MGM.
