Andreae will oversee development and production

Discovery Channel is beefing up its Los Angeles-based programming operations with the appointment of producer and former Channel 4 exec Simon Andreae as West Coast senior VP of development and production.

Andreae most recently headed L.A.-based production shingle Incubator, which produced a number of series for Discovery and its sibling channels, including “Through the Wormhole” and “The Science of Sex Appeal.”

In the newly created post, Andreae will shepherd series and specials for the mothership Discovery cabler working with Clark Bunting, prexy and g.m. of Discovery and Science channels, and Stephen Reverend, Discovery’s East Coast senior VP of development and production.

Andreae’s “razor-sharp programming acumen has produced some of the most cutting-edge and engaging nonfiction programming in the world,” Bunting said.

Before launching Incubator in 2005, Andreae oversaw science and education programming for Channel 4. He was also a founding partner of U.K. indie production banner Optomen Television.
