Thesp appeared in nearly 50 TV shows

Thesp Sid Conrad, who was featured in dozens of TV shows from “The Young and the Restless” to “West Wing” and “ER,” died April 16 in Williamsburg, Va. He was 86.

Raised in Otsego, Mich., Conrad served in the U.S. Army during World War II going from the Bulge to the Elbe. Using the GI Bill he went to Columbia U. for his bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s in journalism. He later earned a master’s in arts adminstration from UCLA.

As an actor he appeared regularly on TV in commercials as well as on such daytime soaps as “The Young and the Restless” and “The Days of Our Lives.” On primetime he appeared on “West Wing,” “ER,” “Chicago Hope,” “JAG” and “Moonlighting” among others.

He performed in the one-man shows “Will Rogers USA” and “Spencer Tracy” and also appeared on regional stages including in California, New York, Alaska and Florida.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila; two daughters; three granddaughters; and a sister.
