New CBS talkshow set to launch in October

Brad Bessey is ready to talk “The Talk.”

Co-exec producer of “Entertainment Tonight” is shifting to the exec producer slot at the new CBS talkshow created by Sara Gilbert. Gilbert will co-host with Julie Chen, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini and Marissa Janet Winokur.

Set to launch in October, “The Talk” is the Eye’s answer to ABC’s longstanding ladies’ chatshow “The View.” “The Talk” will focus on subjects such as motherhood as well as topical events of the day.

“Brad’s ability to translate news and current events through the lens of a format like ‘Entertainment Tonight,’ along with his sensitivity as a parent of a small child, makes him the ideal person to lead our exciting new team,” said CBS daytime topper Barbara Bloom.

At “Entertainment Tonight” since 2005, Bessey had overseen all aspects of the broadcast, including staffing, planning, show rundowns, story approvals, interviews, scripts, writing, casting as well as supervising all aspects of the show’s digital assets.

Gilbert and John Redmann will also exec produce the hourlong strip that CBS originated in place of canceled sudser “As the World Turns.”

It’s unclear whether Chen will continue on morning news program “The Early Show.”
