Buyers include Russian, Czech, Gallic webs

LONDON — The BBC’s contempo take on Sherlock Holmes has been snapped up by more countries.

BBC Worldwide said it has sold “Sherlock,” which stars Benedict Cumberbatch as a tech-savvy Holmes and Martin Freeman as his loyal sidekick Watson, to France (France Televisions), Russia (CH1 and CH5), Czech Republic (Czech TV), Slovenia (RTV Slovenia), Estonia (ETV), Serbia (RTS), New Zealand (TVNZ) and Canada (Showcase).

The three-episode “Sherlock,” made by Hartswood Films, is also heading to BBC Entertainment channels in South Africa, Latin America and Ireland’s RTE.

These sales join the six territories that have already licensed the series.
