Albrecht sets exec shuffle at Starz

Exec VP Hamm out; former HBO exec Zlotnik in

In what appears to be start of a long-expected reorganization, Starz prexy and CEO Chris Albrecht is making some executive changes at Starz Entertainment.

Insiders confirm that creative development exec VP Bill Hamm is out, while several others were also said to be shown the door.

Expected to join Albrecht as his new production lieutenant: Carmi Zlotnik, a one-time HBO exec who more recently served as head of global media operations at IMG during Albrecht’s brief tenure there.

Moves come as Albrecht looks to put his imprint on the channel, which he took over in January, and put his own creative team in place.

Whereas Hamm focused on both development and production at Starz prior to Albrecht’s arrival, Albrecht is taking a more active role in developing a new programming slate for the Liberty Media cabler.

In bringing in Zlotnik, Albrecht will rely on an exec known for his business acumen and oversight of creative matters.

During his 20-year run at HBO, Zlotnik served as head of original programming production, overseeing the mini “Band of Brothers,” as well as “The Sopranos,” “Sex and the City,” “Six Feet Under” and “From the Earth to the Moon.”

As for Hamm, his exit comes despite strong ratings for drama “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” which wrapped its frosh season on Friday, and the critical success of laffer “Party Down,” which launches its second season on Friday. Hamm joined Starz in 2007; before that, he was an exec at Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures and Universal TV.

Also exiting are creative development director Matt Carpenter and production manager Andrea Kaufman, as well as others.

Reorganization, first reported by Deadline Hollywood , comes as Overture Films toppers Chris McGurk and Danny Rosett continue to explore a management buyout of the Starz Media unit that houses Overture, homevid company Anchor Bay, toon house Film Roman and Starz Animation. Insiders said there were no layoffs in those divisions on Monday.
