Cabler greenlights sitcom 'Melissa & Joey'
ABC Family has given a 10-episode order for sitcom “Melissa & Joey.”
Starring Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence, skein will begin production in April and is tentatively scheduled for a summer launch.
The pair — who will exec produce with David Kendall, Bob Young and Paula Hart — recently toplined the net’s telepic “My Fake Fiance,” which first aired in the spring. In “Melissa & Joey,” Hart plays a politician who is overwhelmed in dealing with family issues and hires Lawrence to help out.
ABC Family is brimming with original series. Net is launching third season of “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” in summer, as well as season two of “Make It or Break It.”
New one-hour dramas “Pretty Little Liars” — about a group of friends who receive mysterious text messages following the news a friend has gone missing — and Winnie Holzman-developed “Huge,” which examines six teens at a weight loss camp, each begin production of their first seasons in April.
Net also announced that the untitled Michael Jacobs comedy will not go forward.
