Studio inks overall pact with 'Bones' writer
“Bones” scribe Karyn Usher has sealed a significant overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV.As part of the two-year, seven-figure pact, Usher will develop fare for the studio. For the time being, she’ll also remain a part of the “Bones” team, where she’s a co-exec producer. Usher has been involved with 20th series starting with “The Lyon’s Den” in 2003. She spent several years on the studio’s “Prison Break” before moving to “Bones.” Last development season, Usher wrote the script “Daylight Robbery” for Fox. In striking the deal with Usher, 20th Century Fox TV chairman Dana Walden cited the writer’s versatility. “She can do anything, and she’s been absolutely indispensable on ‘Prison Break’ and ‘Bones,’ ” Walden said. “Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan love her, as do we. We also think she has a hit series of her own in her. ‘Daylight Robbery’ was one of our favorites.” Usher said she’s probably looking to develop a show for 20th with a serialized backbone. “I liked the complicated storytelling on ‘Prison Break,’ ” she said. “People appreciate smart TV.” As for sticking with 20th, Usher said she enjoyed working with exec VP Jennifer Nicholson Salke’s team. “They’re actually in it to entertain people,” Usher said. Usher’s other credits include “North Shore,” “One Tree Hill” and “Presidio Med.”
