Third-season renewal for ‘Fringe’

Show has provided Fox with solid Thursday lineup

“Fringe” has hit the mainstream.

Fox confirmed over the weekend what had been expected: It has picked up the J.J Abrams/Alex Kurtzman/Roberto Orci series for a third season.

The show hasn’t been a huge hit, but paired with “Bones,” “Fringe” has at least helped give Fox a solid Thursday-night lineup this season.

“Fringe” has been on hiatus, as the net tested “Past Life” on Thursdays — and quickly pulled the plug on that show. More recently, a mix of special “American Idol” and “Kitchen Nightmares” episodes have aired on the night. “Bones” and “Fringe” repeats return March 18, with new episodes starting April 1.

“Fringe” centers on a group that investigates unusual events throughout the world linked via something called “the Pattern.”

Show stars Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, John Noble, Lance Reddick, Kirk Acevedo, Blair Brown and Jasika Nicole. Abrams, Kurtzman and Orci created the show; exec producers include Abrams, Bryan Burk, Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman. Warner Bros. TV is the studio.
