A 4 a.m. wakeup call to be on live TV at the break of dawn? No problem, says Sofia Vergara.
The “Modern Family” thesp is set to announce the Primetime Emmy Award nominations Thursday at 5:38 a.m. sharp along with “Community” star Joel McHale and John Shaffner, chairman and CEO of the TV Acad.
“I’m an early morning person so I don’t care all that much how early it is,” Vergara says with her trademark throaty laugh.
Hair and makeup is a must, and she plans to pick her own wardrobe for the occasion: “You know us girls have to look our best plus.”
She admits to being a little unclear on what exactly the gig entails, but that doesn’t trouble her either.
“I’ve actually never watched (the announcement) before so I don’t exactly know what I will be doing, but I’m not that worried,” she says.
The large ensemble on “Modern Family” presents a challenge to Emmy voters this year: The show’s troupe could almost fill up all the nomination slots in the key acting categories.
Vergara says she’s rooting for the team to score a comedy series nomination more than for her own glory. She’s hoping her presence at the announcement will bring the show good luck.
“Being Latin, we do like wearing some kind of good luck ring or whatnot,” she says. “Maybe I should wear something that would bring the show good luck that morning.”
