MTV sets final season of ‘Hills’

Reality show to end run after six seasons

MTV announced that unscripted hit “The Hills” would wrap up this summer after its final season of 12 episodes.

One of the bellwether shows for MTV since premiering in May 2006, “The Hills” quickly became a melting pot of household names (depending on the demographics of the household) including Lauren Conrad, Whitney Port, Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt, Audrina Patridge, Kristin Cavallari and Brody Jenner. Conrad (“Laguna Beach”) was the original anchor for the series before leaving her regular role last year.

The sixth season premieres April 27 at 10 p.m., followed by Port starrer “The City” at 10:30. In “The Hills’?” fifth season (20 episodes from April-December 2009), ratings peaked at No. 3 among original cable series, and No. 1 on Tuesdays in the adult and female 12-34 demos. The series also gets MTV’s biggest DVR-related gains in Live+7.

Adam DiVello created “The Hills” and exec produces with Sara Mast.
