MTV likes Jenks’ ‘World’

Cabler greenlights docu series

MTV has greenlit nonscripted series “The World of Jenks” and given premiere slots to two other summer shows, “The Hard Times of RJ Berger” and “Warren the Ape.”

Given a 12-episode order for a summertime launch, “The World of Jenks” follows documentary filmmaker Andrew Jenks as he lives the life of a different real-life person each week, from a rapper to a homeless teenager. Jenks is exec producing with Mike Powers, Brent Haynes and Brooke Posch.

“Hard Times” and “Warren,” which were greenlit late last summer (Daily Variety, Sept. 16), will premiere on MTV in June. Starring Paul Iacono, “Hard Times” is a “Wonder Years”-like story with a distinctly “Hung” element, while “Warren” is a spinoff from fellow puppet show “Greg the Bunny.”

In 2010, we are unleashing a creatively diverse slate that includes scripted, animation, comedy and new kinds of reality, all built off of a foundation of our returning hits,” MTV programming prexy Tony DiSanto said.

MTV has drawn good ratings so far in 2010 from three programs in particular: “Teen Mom,” “Jersey Shore” and “Real World: D.C.” Each ranked No. 1 among age 12-34 cable viewers in their timeslots, and “Jersey Shore” finished second only to the college football national championship game on ABC across all of television in the demo.
