Attorney Ron Konecky dies at 80
Attorney Ron Konecky, who represented star newscasters and Broadway personalities in a career than spanned more than 50 years, died Thursday in New York. He was 80.Konecky represented some of the most famous names in the news business — including Walter Cronkite, Don Hewitt, Stone Phillips, Harry Smith and Barbara Walters — as well as a host of actors, authors, sports and legit figures. Konecky had been counsel to Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz for the past 25 years. Before that, he co-founded Hardee Barovick Konecky & Braun, which grew to a 200-lawyer firm by the 1970s. He got his start working at the MCA talent agency. “He was well-respected by everyone who came in contact with him, both clients and adversaries. Above all, he was the rare distinguished gentleman,” said Richard Hofstetter, partner and co-chairman of Frankfurt Kurnit’s entertainment group. Konecky and wife, Isobel Robins Konecky, were mainstays in the New York theater world, and he was a member of the board of directors of the American Theater Wing. He also is survived by a daughter, Jennifer, and two grandchildren. Funeral services are planned for Monday at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home in New York City.
