Japan adds 7 digital TV licenses

Disney among five channel operators

Disney is among the companies that has been given a digital TV license to launch on broadcast satellite in Japan.

Media Broadcast Satellite Disney will offer the premium Disney Channel on standard TV and free-to-air D-Life for high-def TV. Both are skedded to bow Oct. 1, 2011.

The other license recipients are Imagica TV (foreign pic channel), Nihon Eiga Satellite Broadcasting (specialty pic channel), Fishing Vision (fishing channel) and J Sports Broadcasting (two sports channels).

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications announcement follows one in June 2009 and essentially completes the broadcast satellite digital channel lineup.
