‘iCarly’ sets series record

Monday's episode garners show's biggest audience ever

While Fox dominated the week in primetime on the broadcast side, the week’s cable highlights were much more evenly dispersed — and numerous nets had something big to crow about it.

Nickelodeon’s “iCarly” kicked off the frame Monday with cable’s largest overall aud for the week — a whopping 11.16 million. This was the biggest tune-in yet for the third-year show about a girl who creates her own Web series and also the largest aud to date for any telecast on the network.

“iCarly” beat all broadcast competish in total viewers in the night’s lead half-hour and led into “Big Time Rush,” whose 6.77 million viewers makes in the net’s highest-rated live-action premiere on record.

The next night saw Fox News Channel draw more than 6 million viewers in primetime for its coverage of the special election in Massachusetts, with “Hannity” claiming its largest aud ever (6.81 million). And for the week, FNC edged past USA in total viewers (3.21 million to 3.19) for its first cable triumph since the week of the 2008 presidential election.

USA still held the edge in all key demos, thanks in part to a nice return Tuesday for “White Collar” (1.6/5 in 18-49, 4.72m), which shifted to a new night and achieved highs in several categories. Net’s “Burn Notice” also held up well opposite firstrun broadcast fare on Thursday (1.9/5, 5.35m).

Also Thursday, MTV’s “Jersey Shore” finished its first season with record numbers (2.6/7 in 18-49, 4.83m). It beat its broadcast competish in adults 18-34 (4.1/12), and its persons 12-34 score (4.1/13) trailed only “American Idol” among all primetime programs for the week.

And on Saturday, Lifetime’s original movie “The Pregnancy Pact” gave birth to impressive ratings (2.5/8 in 18-49, 5.86m), crushing everything on broadcast television for the night and becoming ad-supported cable’s most-watched pic in years in various key femme demos.

Also of note during the week, Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place” hit series highs Friday in both total viewers (6.22 million) and kids 6-11 (2.6 million).

And Syfy’s “Caprica” averaged 1.6 million viewers in its premiere on Friday — and that number figures to surge when all DVR playback is included.
