Emmys’ ‘starry, starry night’

TV Acad to take Governors Ball attendees to 'celestial heaven'

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and Sequoia Prods. are teaming up for the 13th consecutive year to deliver a “starry, starry night” to the attendees of the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards Governors Ball.

Held at the L.A. Convention Center following the Aug. 29 kudos, the ball will feature a 565-pound mirrored ball and more than 5,000 smaller balls to transport the 3,600 guests to “celestial heaven,” this year’s theme.

Patina Catering will be serving the event for the 15th year. Additionally, floral arranger Kevin Lee will provide zodiac-inspired centerpieces, century-old Beaulieu Vineyard will offer an assortment of wines, while Duncan Hines is preparing 14,400 brownies in zodiac-themed boxes as gifts for attendees.

“It had to be something different … that’s why we came up with brownies,” said pastry chef Gunther Heiland. “It’s not too sweet. It’s not too heavy.”

The glitch so far? Patina’s first-course crab dish had to be replaced at the last minute with a salad due to skyrocketing seafood prices. As Patina founder Joachim Splichal joked, “We didn’t want any BP flavor.”

All leftover food will be donated to homeless org Midnight Mission.
