Telenovela-style skedding of original primetime series has never caught on in the United States, but that hasn’t stopped nets from trying.
TeenNick will try a Monday-Thursday schedule for the 10th season of its popular teen sudser “Degrassi.” The series will bow July 19 with a two-hour movie, followed by airings Monday-Thursday through Aug. 26.
TeenNick is the branded name for the primetime programming block that runs on the N, which is geared to younger viewers during the daytime.
HBO engaged in the most recent high-profile experiment with nightly skedding of a scripted program with “In Treatment,” which ran five days a week in its first season in 2008.
Last year, the skedding pattern was adjusted to four episodes a week spread across two nights.
